SpeakerDerek Robson
Senior IT Security Specialist | Ministry of Social Development Derek Robson background and career progression have always been kept in the dark. Perhaps his passion for covert (and most generally controversial) activities - ranging from unix admin work, through lockpicking, to (possibly legal) hacking pursuits - have led him to ensure a high level of privacy on his whereabouts and involvements. It is very likely that Derek spent several years across a number of IT roles, allowing him to gain various perspectives and experiences; all of which enable him to (secretly) shine in his current occupation, within the Cyber Security space, at the Ministry of Social Development. The rest of his bio is classified information (although, we all know "it takes one to catch one"). |
TopicControlling a fire, whilst extinguishing it.
You would, most likely, be familiar with the purpose of Incident Management: "to restore a normal service operations as quickly as possible and minimize the adverse impact on business operations". This definition more often than not, creates a flurry of urgent activities in an attempt to bring things back to normal. Derek will challenge this idea when it comes to security matters, and will demonstrate why rushing into fire-fighting mode may not always be the best approach. ![]()
